Robert’s review on Tamarelli Malbec—

“I loved the purple color of this full bodied wine. With aromas of plum and blackberries, this wine was also very well balanced with acidity and tannins. The wine opened up with lovely flavors of dark berries, plum and some vanilla. Aged in French oak barrels, this wine could easily age another ten years…”

1) What gets you most excited about wine?

The aromas and notes to start. What’s beneath that cork? What surprise is awaiting me? The way the wine evolves in the glass or decanter over time; how the air and temperature affect the structure as it sits in the glass. Every sip can be a new flavor. Trying new wines with friends to compare notes.

2) Do you consider yourself an Enthusiast? Connoisseur? Recreational? Other?

I’m an enthusiast but desire to expand my depth of knowledge which is why I have started my WSET journey this month. I really wanted to better understand the many challenges of producing fine wines. I desire to learn more about the terroir and the fermentation process. All the building blocks that make a great bottle of wine.

3) What do you look for when selecting new bottles to try?

Having been to a few vineyards in Tuscany and enjoying the many Italian wines, I tend to gravitate to bold Italian reds. But generally, I look for unusual wines that are not in the mainstream (hard to find), wines that are full-bodied where the flavor lingers and are rich are my go-to.

4) Are you loving any particular varietals lately?

Chablis, vastly different than big, bold reds. Because I've been in love with reds (and still am) I felt a need to step out of that box. Chablis offers nice acidity without the oaky flavors. Also Champagne, why is this just for celebrations? I’ve had a few fantastic Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs recently. What have I been missing? Let’s make Champagne a Saturday night ritual and not just for special occasions.

5) What experience cannot be fully enjoyed without the right bottle of wine?

There are no right or wrong bottles; it’s a matter of preference. I enjoy any occasion with the right people, but it’s the wine that takes it to the next level……
